GV287 : The effect of eight weeks of intense intermittent exercise (HIIT) with vitamin E supplementation on non-alcoholic fatty liver in obese women

Abstarct: Abstract Background and Objective: Fatty liver disease due to obesity has become a global problem in adults and children. When our calorie intake exceeds calorie expenditure, excess energy accumulates in the form of fat, leading to obesity and fatty liver. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of eight weeks of intense intermittent exercise with vitamin E supplementation on non-alcoholic fatty liver of obese women. Materials and Methods: The statistical population of the present study was obese women with non-alcoholic fatty liver who referred to Gorgan Nutrition Clinic and the sample of this population was selected baxsed on the necessary conditions to enter the study. The selected individuals were randomly divided into training, training and supplement, supplement and control groups. And HIIT training protocol includes 10 minutes of warm-up and 10 sets of 30 seconds of running with maximum physical strength of the subjects and between each set of running there was 4 minutes of rest and recovery time to reach resting heart rate. Also, vitamin E groups with dose is 400 units per day. The difference between groups was determined by one-way (ANOVA) and the comparison of groups was determined by Bonferroni's post hoc test, and the changes in the group were determined by the dependent t-test (p≤0.05). Results: Data analysis showed that the HIIT group along with vitamin E consumption caused a significant decrease in the serum concentration of liver enzymes AST (P=0.009) and ALT (P=0.045). and also caused a significant decrease in LDL concentration (P=0.027). On the other hand, it showed a significant increase in HDL concentration (P=0.004). And the BMI index has also decreased significantly in this group (P=0.013). However, in the inter-group comparison, significant differences were observed only in HDL serum level (P=0.001) and BMI index (P=0.026) between the groups of intermittent exercise, vitamin E supplement, exercise with vitamin E supplement and the control group. And no significant difference was observed in the serum concentration of liver enzymes AST and ALT, as well as the concentration of LDL and TG (P < 0.05). Conclusion: HIIT exercises along with vitamin E consumption can have a positive effect on patients with fatty liver, so changing lifestyle and proper diet can prevent the stage of liver fibrosis.
